Next Week, Rizieq Shihab Et Al Will Undergo A Trial Of Prosecution In The Petamburan And Megamendung Cases

JAKARTA - Attorney Rizieq Shihab and five former FPI officials, Aziz Yanuar, said the public prosecutor (JPU) will decide on their charges for cases of crowds and violations of health protocols in Petamburan and Megamendung on Tuesday, May 11. Because, there will be additional expert witnesses proposed.

"Earlier the plan was postponed from Monday (the demands) are still our witnesses. Then the demands on Tuesday," said Aziz to reporters, Thursday, May 6.

The addition of experts in the trial of the two parties, said Aziz, was to make this case clearer. It is believed that Aziz, his client did not commit a criminal offense as charged by the prosecutor.

Aziz also claimed that the panel of judges had granted the additional experts. That way, the prosecution agenda will take place on Tuesday.

"Earlier, the panel of judges received tomorrow's witness from us as well as the defendant's testimony for the Megamendung and Petamburan cases," he said.

However, Aziz did not rule out the possibility that the trial process would be accelerated later. This means that in the next trial there will be a schedule for the examination of the experts, the accused and the reading of the charges.

"So Monday there could be charges, it could be Tuesday for the Petamburan and Megamendung cases," said Aziz.

In the alleged violation of the health protocol in Petamburan, Rizieq Shihab and five former FPI officials were charged with incitement to the appearance of a crowd at his daughter's wedding as well as commemorating the Prophet's birthday. This crowd is taking place in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

As for the crowd case in Megamendung, Rizieq Shihab was accused of not obeying the implementation of health quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
