GORONTALO - Member of the Indonesian Parliament, Rachmat Gobel, visited directly the Didingga Village, one of the villages affected by flash floods in the Biau District of North Gorontalo, Gorontalo Province.
"My presence here, especially I want to see firsthand the impact of the flood disaster experienced by the people of Biau District, including in Didingga Village, especially in the Remote Indigenous Community (KAT) settlement," said Rachmat in Gorontalo, Saturday.
He admitted that he wanted to see and feel firsthand the difficulties faced by the community.
According to him, KAT Didingga is in a very beautiful village, so he thinks that he will immediately help the local government to improve the river flow and the safety embankment which is in a mess because of the flood.

He came accompanied by the Deputy Chairman of the Gorontalo Provincial DPRD, Ridwan Monoarfa, the Chairman of the North Gorontalo DPRD, Dedy Dunggio, and several members of the district DPRD, as well as the Regional Secretary of the North Gorontalo Regency Government, Suleman Lakoro, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Sumitro Datunsolang, Head of Bappeda Helmi Potutu.
The visit was also attended by the Biau District Government, as well as the Didingga, Bualo Village Governments and other affected villages, even the former Deputy Regent of North Gorontalo RoniImranturut attended to visit the flood-affected community.
Regional Secretary Suleman Lakoro said the local government welcomed the visit.
"The visit of Mr. Rachmat Gobel for North Gorontalo, especially in the Biau flood site, brought blessings because he had promised to ask for proposals related to flood disasters and documentation, and the River Basin Office has included a proposal of around Rp. 105 billion. It will be fought by Mr. Rachmat at the Ministry of Public Works. So he is helping the region for short-term and long-term assistance," he said.
The regional government, he said, was grateful for the blessing, especially since the affected community received a number of direct assistance, such as sleeping mats, and there will be assistance for home repairs and paint that will be handed over to immediately repair the KAT settlement.
Flash floods submerged five villages in Biau District on Tuesday (26/5) at 15.00 WITA, with water levels reaching the windows of houses and flowing fast, namely Luhuto, Bualo, Biau, Omuto and Didingga villages.
The number of affected residents reached 3,500 people, dozens of houses and village roads were severely damaged.
The worst flood hit KAT Didingga, which destroyed and devastated 90 percent of the settlement.
