PALU - The Class IIA Palu Correctional Institution (Lapas), Central Sulawesi, facilitates Special Telecommunications Warung (Wartelsus) services for correctional inmates to provide optimal services and prevent the entry of cellphones into prisons.

"Wartelsus ini bukan hanya soal bisa mengpon. Ini adalah bagian dari proses pemulihan relatasi sosial warga binaan. Kami pastikan penggunaannya tetap sesuai prosedur dan diawasi secara bertanggung jawab," kata Kepala Lapas (Kalapas) Palu Makmur dilansir ANTARA, Minggu, 20 Juli.

He said the Wartelsus service was to anticipate and prevent inmates from using cell phones.

Makmur emphasized that inmates are prohibited from owning and operating various types of communication equipment in correctional facilities.

Therefore, he said, his party continues to maintain the quality and transparency of services in order to create a healthy communication space.

Meanwhile, Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of Central Sulawesi Bagus Kurniawan said that communication services such as Wartelsus are not just technical facilities, but emotional bridges that are crucial in the coaching process.

"Social relations that are maintained are part of a more humane reintegration effort. By staying emotionally connected, the inmates have hope, have direction. And we must not ignore that," he said.

He said this step was taken to ensure that the inmates were able to maintain proper, safe, and dignified communication with their families, even though they were behind bars.

The service, he said, was also to anticipate and prevent inmates from using cell phones.

Bagus juga mengingatkan petugas Lapas pentingnya akuntabilitas dan integritas petugas dalam mengelola layanan.
