JAKARTA - Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijri, the need for beef for sacrificial animal needs in Batam City is expected to increase sharply.

The high demand encourages local governments, especially the Batam City Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP), to optimally prepare the stock of sacrificial animals to meet the needs of the community.

According to the Head of the Batam DKPP, Mardanis, the estimated need for sacrificial animals this year reaches around 10,000 heads, consisting of 4,000 cows and 6,000 goats.

"We project this amount to meet the needs of the Batam community during the Eid al-Adha celebration. So far, 2,490 cows have been recorded and 3,596 goats have entered Batam," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

Because Batam does not have a large-scale livestock sector, the supply of sacrificial animals depends on supplies from outside the region. Business actors are responsible for bringing in this sacrificial animal, under strict supervision from the DKPP.

To maintain animal quality and health, DKPP requires business actors to use traffic applications.isikhnas.pertanian.go.id. Through this platform, they must apply for an animal income permit and attach a vaccination certificate and related laboratory test results.

Mardanis explained that every sacrificial animal must have received the second dose of Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) vaccine, as well as undergo other disease examinations such as the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), brucellosis, antracks, and Jembrana specifically for Balinese cows.

Further health checks will be carried out D-10 before Eid al-Adha, in collaboration with the veterinarian association in Batam. "Usually, it is enough based on laboratory results from the area of origin of the animal. However, if indications of disease are found in the field, we will carry out additional examinations. So far, animals that enter Batam are always in good health," he explained.

With the implementation of this strict supervision, the Batam DKPP hopes that all sacrificial animals distributed to the community are in good health and safe to consume.
