Severe Traffic Jams On Jalan Yos Sudarso, This Is The Cause

JAKARTA Long traffic jams occurred on Jalan Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta, towards Tanjung Priok Port on Thursday, April 17 morning. The police said the density was caused by high loading and unloading activities at the port.

"Congestion is caused by high loading and unloading activities," said North Jakarta Police Traffic Head, AKBP Donni Bagus Wibisono, quoting ANTARA.

According to Donni, congestion points occurred in several locations, including from Post 9 of Tanjung Priok Port to the front of NPCT 1 (New Priok Container Terminal One). The flow of vehicles is dominated by large trucks that want to enter the port area.

Donni also appealed to non-carriage motorists to look for other alternative routes and remain careful on the road. He added that traffic jams had occurred since Wednesday night.

"The loading and unloading volume is very high, especially in the NPCT 1 area, Mbah Priok, and JICT which are currently congested," he added.

Previously, the North Jakarta Transportation Agency had anticipated the potential for congestion due to queues of container trucks that wanted to enter the port area after the Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri holiday and collective leave.

"We are worried that there will be long queues because imported goods piled up during the Lebaran holiday," said Head of the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-department, Hendrico Tampubolon, on Wednesday (16/4).

As an anticipatory measure, his party has coordinated with various policy makers such as PT Pelindo, Tanjung Priok Port Police, North Jakarta Metro Police, Satpol PP, and other agencies.

"We are trying to make joint arrangements, especially regarding information on ship arrivals and regulation of distribution of goods in the buffer zone, so that there is no buildup at the port," explained Hendrico.
