Mount Dukono North Halmahera Sprays Volcanic Ash As High As 1,000 Meters

TERNATE - The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) of Dukono in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, reported that on Thursday at around 06.39 WIT, Mount Dukono erupted again by ejecting volcanic ash as high as 1,000 meters.

"Yes, this morning the eruption with a column height of ash was observed about 1,000 meters above the peak," said PGA Dukono Post officer Bambang Sugino when contacted from Ternate, Antara, Thursday, March 20.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity leaning towards the West and this eruption was recorded on a seismogram with an amplitude of a maximum of 34 m and a duration of 46.45 seconds at the Dukono PGA Post in Mamuya Village, Galela District.

He explained that currently the condition of the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level is at Level II or Alert.

"People around Mount Dukono and visitors and tourists, so they don't move, climb, and approach the Maupang Warirang Crater within a 4 kilometer radius," he said.

Given that eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occur and the spread of ash follows the direction and speed of the wind.

"The public is also reminded to prepare masks when needed, in order to avoid the threat of volcanic ash in the respiratory system," he added.

Previously, officers of the Dukono Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in North Halmahera Regency reported that Mount Dubono erupted by ejecting volcanic ash as high as 3,000.meter above the top of the mountain last Sunday.

Mount Dubono erupted by removing the height of the ash column, which was observed at approximately 3,000 meters.
