JAKARTA - Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha said the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore would continue to provide assistance to Indonesian citizens suspected of sexually harassing on flights to Singapore.
Judha said the Indonesian citizen and his family had consulted with the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore on February 10.
"The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has helped coordinate with the Singapore Police, including seeking that the trial can be carried out immediately so that it does not drag on," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 11.
Previously, reported from the official website of the Singapore Police, a 23-year-old man was suspected of sexually harassing on a flight to Singapore on January 23.
The Singapore Police were notified of the incident where the man allegedly showed his genitals to a female cabin crew while on board.
The man was immediately arrested by airport police officers as soon as the plane landed at Changi Airport.
The man will undergo trial on March 12 and be charged with sexual offenses under Article 377BF of the 1871 Criminal Code which was read under Article 3 (1) of the 1971 Tokyo Convention Act.
Such violations can face up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.
