JAKARTA - Argentina's Minister of Transportation Mario Meoni has reportedly died after being involved in a car accident. Mario's car capsized about 110 km west of Buenos Aires.
The incident occurred when Meoni was driving alone to Junin, his hometown, during a storm. Local radio station FM VALL uploaded footage of firefighters evacuating his overturned vehicle.
President Alberto Fernandez expressed his condolences for the departure of one of his cabinet members.
"With his death, Argentina has lost a conscientious, tireless, honest politician and an exemplary official", said President Fernandez, quoted by Reuters on Saturday, April 24.
The 56-year-old man left a wife and two children. He has been the minister of transportation since December 2019, shortly after Fernandez took office.
