JAKARTA - West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen had to pull out for several weeks after experiencing a broken leg when his team was beaten by Liverpool last weekend.
Bowen had to leave the pitch due to injury in the second half, when his team was beaten 0-5 by the Premier League leader at London Stadium on Sunday (29/12).
"West Ham United confirmed that Jarrod Bowen suffered a broken leg in Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool," West Ham said in a statement on his official website.
The injury to his left foot, which he got in the first half at the London Stadium, will see the Hammers captain pull over ahead of the New Year, he added.
Bowen was one of West Ham's mainstay players when they had a tough first season under manager Julen Lopetegui.
The 28-year-old, who has scored six goals in all competitions this season, explained that he picked up the injury in the first half but struggled to keep playing after halftime.
"Unfortunately in the first half of our match on Sunday, I suffered a fracture in my leg. As I always do, I try to keep fighting and keep playing until physically I can no longer do it," Bowen wrote through his official Instagram account.

Meanwhile, Michail Antonio has been allowed to leave the hospital to resume treatment from a car accident he suffered in early December.
The 34-year-old Jamaican requires surgery on his lower leg leg as a result of the accident.
He was able to speak to his team-mates via video calls from the hospital, and has also been visited by the squad and manager of Lopetegui.
Antonio appeared in every league game this season before the accident. He is now facing a long recovery period before being able to return to play.
"Everyone at the club would like to express their deepest gratitude to the first rescuers, emergency officers, air ambulance staff, and the NHS (National Health Service) for the extraordinary support given to Michail after the accident," West Ham said in a statement.
