JAKARTA - The US House of Representatives' supervisory committee led by the Democratic Party has called for an investigation into the potential national security threat posed by the Elon Musk Government's Department of Efficiency.

In a letter on Thursday, February 6, lawmakers urged deputy inspector generals at several federal agencies to investigate potential national security breaches involving Musk's team.

The agencies include the US Treasury Department, Personal Management Office, Department of Education, US Agency for International Development, Public Service Administration, and Small Business Administration.

The Trump administration is giving USAID staff leave this week. Musk said he was working to close the agency, which is called "irreparable."

MPs accuse individuals who are not authorized to access classified systems and data at USAID and OPM.

Musk's team has also accessed US payment systems that store the personal data of millions of Americans, according to lawmakers.

"We are deeply concerned that unauthorized system access could occur across federal governments and could pose a major threat to the personal privacy of all Americans and national security of our country," the lawmaker wrote.

"Although Elon Musk appears to have been given the status of 'Special Government Employees', there is no evidence that he, or his colleague who works under the nickname 'DOGE team' has the right to access our government system, there is also no evidence that they have undergone proper examinations to ensure the safety of taxpayer and government data," said a member of parliament.

The committee, led by Democratic Representative Gerald Connolly of Virginia, sent the letter mainly to deputy inspector general, not to the inspector general himself, as Trump's administration fired them about two weeks ago.

Trump's administration sacked 17 independent supervisors in what critics have called late-night cleaning that could pave the way for Trump loyalists.
