The Government Is Investigating The Potential Violation Of The Jagat Coin Hunting Game And Its Impact

JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, stated that his party would take firm steps if the hunting game "Koin Jagat" was proven to violate applicable regulations.

"We take firm steps if there is a violation of the applicable regulations and regulations," said Meutya in Jakarta, Monday, January 13.

Meutya revealed that her party had received a lot of input from the public, including through direct messages on social media, related to the game on the "Jagat" application.

To follow up on the report, Meutya has coordinated with the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Angga Raka Prabowo, and instructed the Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, to study the application in depth.

This deepening includes aspects of potential losses, the impact of the game, and its suitability with applicable regulations and laws.

"I myself just got input so we will study it first," he said.

The 'Koin Jagat' game is one of the features available in the Jagat application. Based on information from Google Play, Jagat is a social application designed to bring users closer to family and friends.

Initially, this app served to share locations in real-time, tag favorite places, and send emojis to other users.

However, in December 2024, the application introduced the game "Jagat Coin Hunt," which offered a total prize of IDR 850 million. This coin hunting trend then sparked the enthusiasm of the people in various regions, including in Jakarta.

In Jakarta, the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Senayan, is one of the main locations for people to hunt for coins. A similar phenomenon also occurs in Bandung, West Java, where residents hunt for coins in Taman Tegalaga. Unfortunately, this trend caused losses, including damage to public facilities.

Regarding the damage to public facilities due to the trend of hunting for coins, Polda Metro Jaya emphasized that it would take action against anyone who was proven to have damaged the facility. The authorities also reminded the public to maintain order while using the application.

With potential violations and negative impacts emerging, the government ensures that it will continue to monitor the development of the "Koin Jagat" application and take steps in accordance with applicable laws.
