JAKARTA - The Head of the Legal Advisory Team of the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto, Todung Mulya Lubis, highlighted Ronald Paul Signal's examination as a witness by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday, January 8. Ronald was investigated in the alleged bribery in the management of interim replacement (PAW) members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the obstruction of the investigation that ensnared Hasto. He gave testimony as a witness.

"It's strange, like oranges eating oranges. Why are investigators examining former investigators who handled the same case," said Todung in a written statement, Thursday, January 9.

Todung said the information given by Ronald could be considered invalid and biased. "Because he did not see firsthand what happened and did not hear directly," said the lawyer.

"So that an investigation like this clearly violates the Criminal Procedure Code if it is still forced by the KPK," continued Todung.

Furthermore, Todung also assessed that the KPK should no longer need to examine witnesses if it uses this kind of method. "Why don't investigators immediately conclude that someone is guilty and imposes a sentence at once," he said.

"We invite the KPK to stop the practice of law enforcement like this and carry out its duties professionally without targeting certain parties. How is it possible that the opinion or imagination of the former investigator seems to be wrapped into legal facts," said Todung.

Previously reported, Ronald Paul Signal, who is a former KPK investigator, revealed that there was an attempt by former KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri to obstruct the handling of the bribery case for the interim replacement management (PAW) of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who later ensnared PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.

Regarding this investigation, the Director of KPK Investigation Asep Guntur Rahayu said that his party had indeed summoned a number of investigators who had previously handled this case. Including, those who are no longer in charge of completing Hasto's case file.

"We also ask for information from several investigators. From that information, if there is anything that needs to be confirmed against anyone, we will do it," Asep told reporters at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8.
