Police Call One Family Crasher In Pekanbaru Home Dugem, Using Methamphetamine In Palembang

JAKARTA - Head of the Narcotics and Drug Unit of the Pekanbaru City Police, AKP Bagus Faria, said that the driver of the car that hit a motorcycle was carrying three people in Pekanbaru City on Wednesday morning, previously consuming crystal methamphetamine.

"They admitted that they had used methamphetamine before the trip to Pekanbaru. They used methamphetamine in Palembang, then stopped at a nightclub in Pekanbaru before the accident occurred," said AKP Bagus, quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

In addition, it is suspected that one of the men in the car was involved in the circulation of methamphetamine in Palembang. However, this still needs further investigation, including looking for other evidence to prove his involvement.

During a search of the car and hotel where they were staying, the police did not find any evidence of drugs. Investigations of the origin of drugs and their visit to THM in Pekanbaru are still being carried out, considering they are not local residents.

The incident on Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a family riding a motorcycle. The car driven by Antoni Romansyah (44) drove fast from the direction of Kulim to Pekanbaru City before it spread to the right and hit two motorcycles.

This incident resulted in three deaths, namely husband and wife pair Anton Sujarwo (38) and Afrianti (42), as well as their son, Aditio Aprilio Anjani (10).

Car drivers are now facing the threat of a sentence of 12 years in prison based on Article 310 Paragraph 4 and Article 312 of Law Number 22 Year 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.
