Dozens Of Gamblers Arrested On New Year's Eve

The North Sumatra Regional Police Mobile Brigade (Polda) arrested dozens of gamblers in the Medan Belawan District, Medan, on New Year's Eve, Tuesday night, December 31, 2024.

"Together with Belawan Police personnel, we arrested 14 people suspected of being involved in gambling activities on Jalan Veteran, Medan Belawan District, Medan," said North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade Commander Ipda Carsan, ANTARA, Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Ipda Carsan said that prior to the arrest of the gambler, his party carried out a joint patrol of security for New Year's Eve in the Medan Belawan area.

Furthermore, he said, then the personnel received a public report that there was a motorcycle gang group that was troubling the community on Jalan Veteran, Medan Belawan District.

"While following up on the report, personnel actually found a group of people playing gambling at the location," said Carsan.

Then, he said, the gamblers were taken to the Belawan Police office for further questioning regarding the gambling practices carried out.

"We appreciate the active role of the community who provide information, so that the security and order situation in the area can remain under control," he said.

This joint operation is also a firm effort by the apparatus in maintaining security and order, especially at the moment of the turn of the year which is often used by certain parties to carry out illegal activities.

The North Sumatra Police appealed to the public to continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials in maintaining the environment so that it remains safe and comfortable for all parties.

Previously, the North Sumatra Regional Police arrested 72 suspects in 42 cases of conventional gambling during the period 21 October to 14 December 2024.

The types of gambling that were revealed include 37 cases of lottery, 1 case of cockfighting, 1 case of shooting fish, and 4 other cases from various other forms of gambling.
