BEIRUT - Lebanon began deploying its troops to Shamaa village on the border with Israel after Israel agreed to withdraw its troops under a ceasefire agreement.
"The Lebanese Army secured a position around Shamaa Village in the district of Tyre, southern Lebanon, on Tuesday in coordination with the UN Temporary Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and began deployments in the village to strengthen its presence in the region," the Lebanese AD said on platform X.

In the coming days, technical units will clear mines in the village. Until now, Shamaa Village is still occupied by Israeli soldiers. The civilian transportation and infrastructure system there was destroyed so local residents could not return to their homes even though the ceasefire had been imposed.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah Lebanon was mediated by the United States and took effect on November 27 after months of fighting.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces are still violating Lebanese airspace, attacking certain targets in the south, conducting aerial reconnaissance in Beirut and other major cities, and raiding villages on the border.
