Russian Diplomat Says US And UK Attacks On Yemen Are No More Than Aggression

JAKARTA - Russian diplomats have condemned the airstrikes of the United States (US) and Britain in Yemen's territory as an aggression against an independent and sovereign Arab state.

Russia's permanent ambassador and representative for the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia rejected anti-Yman claims from the US and its allies as well as their attacks on the Arab country at Monday's UN Security Council meeting.

The meeting was held at Israeli pressure to discuss "Threats to International Peace and Security".

"The US attack on Yemen does not mean self-defense because this attack is clearly disproportionate," he stressed, quoted by IRNA December 31.

Representatives of the Russian Federation urged those present at the meeting to consider a broader context, in which "many hotspots of current tension are fueled by Israel's actions against Palestine".

Although the missile launch to Israel on the night of December 19-20 "without doubt deserves to be condemned", he stressed as well as Israel's military reaction to the involvement of the United States Navy and "the entire Anglo-Saxon coalition that proclaimed itself in the Red Sea".

The action of the US-UK coalition "is nothing but another military aggression launched by the West collectively against sovereign states," he criticized.

Meanwhile, Chinese representatives at UN DK said the Council faced a "wave of constant instability in the Middle East" and had to learn from experience, seek consensus, act effectively, and "find integrated and comprehensive solutions to Middle East problems in the new year".

"Only when the Palestinian issue is completely resolved, then true peace and stability can be realized in the Middle East," said Nebenzia.

The reaction comes after representatives of America and Britain at the UN DK, reaffirming full and steadfast support for Israel, accused Yemen of targeting Israel's position with the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"Given the continued attacks by the Houthis, the United States reiterated its call to the Council to consider further action in response to the growing threat from the Houthis and hold Iran accountable," the US diplomat claimed.

It is known that regional resistance groups, including Yemeni forces, have launched missile and drone attacks against the Zionist regime's targets since the onset of Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

To support the Palestinian people, Yemeni troops have also targeted Israeli ships bound for occupied areas of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, saying operations will continue until the Zionist regime stops bloodshed and its siege of Gaza.
