MUI: Don't Be Drunk And Be Maksitat On New Year's Eve

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Pekanbaru Ulema Council (MUI), Prof. Akbarizan, asked the public to stay away from immorality, alcohol or drug parties, sex parties, gambling and others during the celebration of welcoming the 2025 New Year.

"The turn of the new year has always been a moment that the community has been waiting for, marked by the euphoria of party celebrations, fireworks and various other activities, but don't overdo it and bring harm," Akbarizan said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 30.

According to him, the turn of the new year according to Islam has a deep meaning, including living life in the future better, not being trapped in excessive pleasure, let alone doing things that are not liked by Allah.

Therefore, he said it was important to maintain morality with the prohibition of avoiding immorality also valid throughout the year.

"People are advised not to carry out dangerous activities, such as convoys of vehicles, speeding / illegal racing on the highway because it can endanger road users, don't make it a welcoming event for the new year detrimental to yourself and others," he said.

According to Islamic teachings, it is better to fill the turn of the year by reflecting and doing muhasabah, namely studying the journey of life throughout the year over the past year so that it can become a better person in the coming year.

"Make the turn of the year a moment of self-employment, let's think about what has been done for this year, have you become a devout and beneficial servant for others," he said.

It is also better to take advantage of the moment of the turn of the year as an event to strengthen ties with family and relatives because gathering with people closest to you can be a positive way to fill time without violating norms.
