JAKARTA - A number of residents of RW 03, Lubang Buaya Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, held a demonstration regarding the existence of a garbage disposal site near their home.

Head of RW 03 Sukarman said the demonstration was carried out because the existing waste disposal site since early 2024, began polluting residents' wells.

"Because the disposal has been overloaded and has polluted the wells of some residents," said Sukarman, Wednesday, December 18.

Sukarman said that the garbage disposal site on Jalan Rawabinong Lubang Buaya, Cipayung, East Jakarta, was previously a water catchment.

"That used to be a water reservoir, so when it was dredged there was no water reservoir, if it was flooded, I was worried that the potential for flooding would be even greater," he said.

According to Sukarman, initially the land would be used as a park but turned into a garbage dump.

"Initially the discussion group forum agreed to build a park but there was a garbage construction there, so residents objected," he said.

Sukarman continued, there had been mediation with the relevant agencies after the residents held a demonstration, but there had been no decision.

"Last night there was no decision, if the department just wait, if there is no decision, stop it first (disposal activity)," he said.
