JAKARTA - The Malaysian District Court (PN) sentenced Goh Kuan Pan to a fine of RM10,000 or around Rp36 million, 43, after being proven to have abused a cat.
Judge Norina Zainol Abidin said the defendant was guilty of dragging the neck of a British Shorthair cat with a rope that caused the animal to suffer injuries.
Citing Bernama, Wednesday, December 18, the incident took place in the corridor of an apartment on Jalan Klang Lama, on the evening of November 21.
The judge also ordered him to be imprisoned for two months if he failed to pay the fine.
The indictment was made in accordance with Article 44(1) (d) of the 1953 Animal Law which stipulates a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a maximum imprisonment of one year.
This case of mistreatment of cats has gone viral on Malaysian social media. Many parties condemned the actions of the perpetrators, Goh Kuan Pan.
Goh Kuan Pan was later arrested by the police on Jalan Klang Lama Kuala Lumpur for accusations of mistreatment of the cat on November 25, 2024 at 18.10.
