Strong Winds And Heavy Rain Decide Electricity In Mukomuko, Residents Asked To Be Alert

MUKOMUKO Strong winds accompanied by heavy rains that hit Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province, on Thursday afternoon, caused power outages in a number of areas.

This condition affects the activities of residents, especially in Ujung Padang Village, Mukomuko City District, which has been extinguished since 15.30 WIB and has not yet recovered until now.

Meanwhile, in the Tanah Rekah Village area, electricity is still on even though it is hit by strong winds. "In Tanah Rekah Village, electricity is still on even though the wind is strong accompanied by rain," said Ahmad Hidayat Syah, Head of the Emergency Division of the Mukomuko Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), as quoted by ANTARA on Friday, December 13.

Ahmad explained that the power outage was likely caused by disruptions to PLN's network due to extreme weather. He added that the current condition of the electricity network is very sensitive to strong winds and heavy rains, so blackouts often occur in weather like this.

Until now, the Mukomuko BPBD has not received reports from residents or village governments regarding the damage or impact of disasters due to strong winds and heavy rains. "There are no reports yet, but we hope that there will be no dangerous disasters," he said.

Ahmad also appealed to residents to be more aware of potential hazards, especially from old trees that have the potential to collapse due to strong winds. "A weathered old tree should be cut down to avoid threats of safety for residents and surrounding buildings," he added.

In addition, Ahmad asked residents who own oil palm plantations near the power cable line to clean up plants that interfere with or allow PLN to cut down trees for mutual safety.

When the wind is strong, electricity often goes out because plants that grow interfere with power lines, including trees that collapse that hit the cable. This must be anticipated," he concluded.

The Mukomuko Regency BPBD also reminded residents to remain alert to face extreme weather which is expected to occur in the next few days.
