JAKARTA - Two residents of Mas'ade Village north of the Golan Heights, were arrested for carrying out a spy mission on behalf of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force, said Shin Bet and police.

The suspects, Tahrir Safadi and Bassem Safadi, a father and son, were arrested in November on suspicion they were "recruited by Iranian elements to commit espionage crimes and contact with foreign agents during the war," Shin Bet said, quoted by The Times of Israel December 6.

The investigation found that Tahrir, 21, who is a software engineering student, was involved in a spy mission for Iran and what the Resistance Axis has called in recent years, at the request of his father, Bassem.

Shin Bet said he would gather information about IDF activities in his area, the Golan Heights, which was then handed over to Hussam as-Salam Tawfiq Zidan, a journalist on the Iranian government's Al-Alam News Network.

Zidan lives in Damascus and works for the Palestinian division in the Quds Forces, according to the Shin Bet. The unit is responsible for assisting Palestinian terror groups in carrying out attacks.

Tahrir and Bassem were ordered by their Quds Force management, Zidan, to carry out various missions, including taking photos of troops, tank movements, equipment, and other details, the security agency said.

Today, charges filed against Tahrir Safadi, accusing him of "serious espionage crimes."

His father, Bassem, will be detained in administrative detention for "there is no alternative criminal process, and given the high risk to state security and public peace," said Shin Bet.

In recent months, the Shin Bet has announced a series of alleged Iranian plans, in which Tehran has tried to deceive Israelis online into carrying out missions, or recruiting Israelis to gather intelligence information about important figures, military targets, and other sites.

"The investigation of this case once again reveals the fact that elements of the Aros, led by Iran, are trying to advance terror activity in Israel and exploit the population of the State of Israel for espionage activities," the agency said.

Shin Bet and police added that they viewed this case, and any other contact by Israelis with Iranian elements, as "serious."
