The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Ensures That UN Troops From Indonesia Continue To Carry Out Tasks According To The UNIFIL Force Commander's Directives

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ensures that Indonesia's peacekeeping troops who are members of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon continue to carry out their duties.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roy Soemirat in his statement said Indonesia continues to be committed to supporting the UN UN UNIFIL Peace Maintenance Mission (MPP) in Lebanon, in accordance with the mandate of the Constitution.

Roy said Indonesia was the largest troop contributor at UNIFIL with a total of 1230 personnel.

"Until now, the United Nations has maintained the presence of peacekeepers in Lebanon," Roy said in a statement to reporters on Friday, November 22.

"The peacekeeping forces from Indonesia continue to carry out their duties according to the direction of the UNIFIL Force Commander, while still paying attention to security and personal safety. Currently they are in good health," he explained.

He added that the Indonesian government continues to communicate and coordinate with various parties to ensure the safety and security of the personnel of the Indonesian peacekeeping force in Lebanon.

It is known that the increasing conflict in southern Lebanon between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group has affected UNIFIL's mission in the region.

The UN Security Council in the middle of this month condemned the attack in southern Lebanon that left a number of UNIFIL troops injured, as well as the destruction of a number of property troops under the United Nations.

This week, Argentina announced its troop withdrawal from the UNIFIL mission, becoming the first country to do this, quoted from Antara.

"Argentina has brought home, I believe, four soldiers from the UNIFIL monitoring group in Lebanon. It has become the prerogative of all member states to make the decision," said UN Peacekeeping Operations Chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix.
