The flash flood hit a number of villages in the southern region or around Tegalwaru District, Karawang Regency, West Java, causing road access to be cut off.

Head of the Karawang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Mahpudin, said that the flash flood occurred after heavy rains that occurred on Tuesday, November 19 evening.

"The rain that flushed the Karawang area on Tuesday made the water level in several rivers increase, resulting in flash floods in the southern Karawang area, precisely in the Tegalwaru area," Mahpudin said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 20.

He confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident, but several stall buildings along the river were swept away by the current, and road access was reportedly cut off.

"Officers go directly to the location to conduct a sweep and urge residents to stay away from the river," he said.

One of the residents of Mekarbuana Village, Tegalwaru Ace said that the Cigentis River overflowed due to rain, resulting in flash floods.

In addition to entering people's homes, the flood also caused road access to be cut off after being eroded by water and landslides.

Residents of Cigunungsari Village, Tegalwaru District, Ojos said floods in the southern Karawang area occurred in a number of villages, namely in Mekarbuana Village, Cigunungsari and Cipurwasari Village.

The Karawang BPBD Task Force, Solihin said that the flash flood incident only occurred for a few hours, and on Wednesday morning it had begun to recede.

Mahpudin, Head of BPBD Karawang previously said that residents should be aware of natural disasters following the switching of the dry season to the rainy season.

This was conveyed because the rainy season this year is predicted to occur in November. This is in accordance with the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which said that the rain in Karawang had started to fall in Karawang in October-November 2024.
