JAKARTA - The Data and Information Technology Center of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education states that the subjects of coding and artificial intelligence (AI) at the elementary level will not be complicated, because prioritizing the development of critical thinking power of students.
Head of Pusdatin Kemendikdasmen Yudhistira Nugraha said that coding and AI subjects as part of numerical education at the SDnanti level will aim to form a systematic thinking ability, think computationally, and think big pictures (big picture thinking) of students.
"That's why, coding will not always have to study on the computer. For example, when introducing basics, you can use a card or other props first, then gradually use supporting applications, the most important thing is that the basic concept of numerical education is conveyed," said Yudhistira as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 14.
The teaching of the two selected subjects will also prioritize learning activities and interactions between students with teachers that are fun and meaningful, either using application technology as a learning aid or not.
"Of course this is in accordance with the priority program, Mr. President, who wants to develop the quality of human resources through numerical education, science and technology, as well as digitization with fun teaching and learning activities," he added.

Previously, the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti said, Artificial Intelligence (AI) subjects or artificial intelligence and coding will be taught starting from grade 4 elementary school.
