NTT Police Set Illegal PMI Recruiters To Taiwan Suspect TIP

JAKARTA - The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police have named Muhamad Vindy (29) as a suspect in the alleged crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) to Taiwan. The suspect acts as a recruiter of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

"Sudah ditetapkan sebagai tersangka," kata Kabid Humas Polda NTT Kombes Pol Ariasandy di Kupang, Kamis 14 November, disitat Antara.

Muhamad Vindy was named a suspect after being arrested on Tuesday, November 12, when he was about to fly two PMI candidates named Adrian Boys and Susanti Adu to Taiwan illegally.

After being arrested on Tuesday, November 12, the suspect was immediately taken to Kupang on Wednesday, November 13 to undergo an examination at the NTT Police Headquarters.

After undergoing the examination, the suspect was then charged with multiple layers of articles due to his unlawful act.

The suspect is subject to a number of articles, namely article 4, article 10 and article 11 of Law (UU) number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIP.

Then the suspect was also subject to Article 81 of Law number 18 of 2917 concerning the protection of Indonesian migrant workers.

"With the threat of a minimum sentence of three years in prison and a maximum of 15 years in prison," he added.

Furthermore, said the former South Central Timor Regency (TTS) Police Chief, the investigation process into the case will continue.

During the arrest of the suspect, the NTT Police also secured a number of pieces of evidence, including two Lion Air Kupang-Denpasar tickets on behalf of SSA and AB, two Lion Air Denpasar-Taiwan tickets, a passport for the two victims, a cell phone belonging to the suspect VN, a BCA bank token, and a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between the victim and the VN suspect.
