Pramono Concerning The PPDB Zoning: Often Considered Unfair

JAKARTA - Candidate for Governor of Jakarta number 3, Pramono Anung assessed that the zoning system in the admission of new students (PPDB) still did not match the expectations of the parents of the students.

Based on the complaints of residents he received, many students who are academically good cannot receive education in their favorite schools due to the PPDB zoning route.

"Indeed, not all schools or sub-districts have schools, be it elementary, junior high, or high school. Often feel unfair. There are children who are smart but the zoning school does not have a favorite school, so the smart child becomes a victim," said Pramono, Wednesday, November 13.

If he wins the Jakarta gubernatorial election with Rano Karno, Pramono promises to review changes to the zoning system in PPDB to further facilitate smart students to enter the intended school.

Bearing in mind, not all areas have public schools that can accommodate students through the zoning route. In fact, dozens of urban villages in Jakarta still do not have public junior high schools or high schools.

"So we will review it again, because not all regions are ready for zoning. It's just that new areas, old Kebayoran, Tebet, Menteng, are certainly capable. But some areas are not. So there is injustice in the zoning," said Pramono.

For the record, in the DKI Jakarta PPDB for the 2024/2025 school year, the DKI Provincial Government only provides a quota of 18 percent on the academic achievement path and 5 percent on the nonacademic achievement path that can accommodate prospective students competing to get their favorite schools.

Then, 50 percent of the quota is prepared for the zoning route, 25 percent for the affirmation route, and 2 percent for the transfer route for parental duties. So, according to him, the PPDB system is currently still making it difficult for some students.

"Indeed, if the school is evenly distributed, the problem is that not all regions have schools. If it's like this, it can't be zoned. There's no school, how do you want to be zoned," he explained.
