JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament Azis Syamsuddin asked the Ministry of Religion to socialize standards and procedures for the implementation of Tarawih prayers in the congregation by implementing strict health protocols (prokes).

"We encourage the Ministry of Religion, the Task Force for Handling COVID-19, and the regional government together with the security apparatus to carry out periodic monitoring and evaluation during the tarawih prayers in congregation," said Azis in a statement received Wednesday, April 7.

It is known that the Ministry of Religion has permitted the implementation of the Tarawih prayers in congregation and the Idulfitri 1442 Hijriyah prayers in the middle of the Eid homecoming prohibition. This is regulated through the Ministry of Religion Circular Letter (SE) Number 3 of 2021.

According to Azis, the Ministry of Religion, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, and the local government need to increase the appeal to the community, especially the congregation, to continue to comply with the health program and comply with all appeals given to prevent a new cluster of the spread of COVID-19.

"Equally important, the mosque prosperity council (DKM) should provide health protocol facilities and regulate the distance of residents during tarawih in congregation and Eid al-Fitr prayers," explained the Golkar politician.

Azis also encouraged the Regional Government and the COVID-19 Task Force to stop the implementation of the Tarawih prayers in the congregation if new cases were found during its implementation in the month of Ramadan.

The Ministry of Religion has published a circular regarding Guidelines for Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr 1442 Hijriah or 2021 AD. Given the fasting month of this year is still in the atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic.
