JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) Unifah Rosyidi welcomed the request for a suspension of detention of Supriyani, an elementary school teacher (SD) of South Konawe, who was reported by parents of students on the basis of persecution.
"For the quick response of the police in this case, PGRI appreciates and expresses its deepest gratitude for the granting of PGRI's request for the suspension of the detention of honorary Supriyani teachers," explained Unifah Rosyidi in a release, Wednesday, October 23.
Unifah Rosyidi asked the police so that the person concerned could be released from all lawsuits, considering that as a teacher while carrying out his profession he had no intention of molesting or hurting his students. Moreover, Supriyani is currently participating in the PPPK selection process for her future.
"Given that the person concerned is undergoing a PPPK test and teacher professional education, PGRI requested that Supriyani's teacher be able to follow the process without any records from the police," he explained.
However, continued Unifah, if in the future there are actions of teachers who are considered to have violated the law, then PGRI asks the relevant police to be able to make efforts to resolve restorative justice.
In addition, the police can also coordinate with the local PGRI in enforcing teacher code of ethics according to the Police MOU with PGRI regarding Legal Protection for Teacher Professionals.
Unifah believes that the police can work professionally regardless of the actions of the officers.
"We believe that the police will carry out professional law enforcement, therefore if there are officers who make efforts outside of compliance, we ask that those concerned can be dealt with in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.
Unifah said, since this case was revealed to the public, PGRI through the PB PGRI consulting and legal assistance institution (LKBH), the PGRI Management of Southeast Sulawesi Province, and the South Konawe Regency PGRI Management went to the field and visited the person concerned in prison.
PGRI conducted the case and coordinated with the relevant legal apparatus to suspend the detention of Supriyani.
Previously, this case went viral after Supriyani was detained at the South Konawe District Attorney's Office. A viral message circulated in the WhatsApp group with the hashtag #SaveMumsSupriyani, which contained a request to release Supriyani from allegations of violence against students.

"Batto Elementary School Teacher, South Konawe. Detained by the Police for reprimanding naughty students. Please pray and help Mrs. Supriyani, S.Pd, an honorarium teacher who is currently in the P3K filing period after serving for years. In fact, the teacher only reprimanded, did not beat her. However, her parents did not accept it," the message read.
Due to this incident, teachers at Baito threatened to go on strike to teach if Supriyani was not released. They argue that Supriyani did not abuse her, but only reprimanded her students.
