Latest Data On Flood Victims In East Nusa Tenggara: 68 People Died

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded an increase in the number of areas affected by floods in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Previously, it was reported that floods occurred in East Flores, currently, there are 10 districts and 1 city that have been affected by flooding which is also quite severe. Currently, there have been 68 people who have died.

These areas are Kupang City, East Flores Regency, Central Malacca Regency, Lembata Regency, Ngada Regency, Alor Regency, East Sumba Regency, Rote Ndao Regency, Sabu Raijua Regency, South Central Timor Regency, and Ende Regency.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Raditya Jati said the data was collected after officers evacuated until Monday, April 5 at 14.00 p.m. local time.

"Data on deaths are still in the process of data collection. We have collected 68 people from all affected areas", said Raditya, Monday, April 5.

In detail, the highest number of victims who died was in East Flores Regency with 44 people, then 11 people died in Lembata Regency, 11 people in Alor Regency, and 2 in Ende Regency.

"This is still dynamic, there are still around 70 people missing, with details of 26 in East Flores, 16 in Lembata, and 28 in Alor", he said.

There were also material losses in the form of 25 housing units severely damaged, 114 housing units moderately damaged, 17 housing units washed away, 60 housing units submerged, 743 houses affected, 40 access points covered by fallen trees, 5 broken bridges, 1 public facility affected, and 1 ship sank.

"In addition, 15 people were recorded injured and 938 heads of families or 2.655 people who were affected by the flood", he said.

President Joko Widodo has asked his staff to move quickly in tackling flooding in NTT. However, the Head of BNPB, Doni Monardo, experienced difficulties traveling to the disaster site due to bad weather.

In fact, Doni Monardo and his entourage of ministries and agencies plan to continue their journey from Fraks Seda Maumere Airport to Larantuka, then continue to Adonara Island this morning.

Supposedly, at this time the group would fly again to Larantuka. However, the weather in Larantuka also makes flights impossible. So, Doni decided to use the land route.

"Then, we will see the situation to cross to Adonara, whether can it be done today or not. If not, then we will wait until the weather is good", he explained.

In order to accelerate and handle the flood disaster in East Flores, Doni also brought some assistance to be delivered. Doni brought the aid directly from Jakarta with the plane he was in.

Details of the types of assistance sent in the form of; 1.002 packages of ready-to-eat food, 1.002 packages of additional nutritional food, 1.002 packages of side dishes, 3.000 blankets, 2.000 sheets of cover, 10.000 units of rapid antigen test kits, 1.000 cloth masks, and 1.000 medical masks.
