Thugs At The Bogor Merdeka Spice Market Arrested In The Aftermath Of Extortion Among Traders

BOGOR Nine thugs at the Merdeka Spice Market, Bogor were arrested by the police for illegal levies (extortion). The arrests were made most times in the same case, extortion among traders by thugs.

Bogor City Police Chief Kombes Bismo Teguh Prakoso said the 9 thugs were arrested last Sunday, October 6.

"With these complaints, we from the Bogor City Police Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested 9 perpetrators of thuggery," said Bismo in his statement, Monday, October 7.

Bismo said that based on the examination of the perpetrators, they carried out extortion at a rate of Rp. 50-120,000 to residents and traders in the market.

"Residents and traders are required to spend security money every night starting from Rp. 50,000 to Rp. 120,000 to thugs by forcing and threatening them," he said.

Therefore, to prevent similar incidents from occurring, his party carried out integrated security near the market.

"We are committed to providing a sense of security to residents and traders to carry out their activities and will take firm action against anyone who will make them restless and disturb Kamtibmas so that the wheels of the economy run smoothly and the situation is safe and conducive," he said.
