The NTB DPRD Gate Destruction Case During The Demonstration Against The Pilkada Bill Rises Investigation

NTB - The case of vandalizing the gates of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) DPRD Office when student demonstrations rejected the ratification of the revision of the Pilkada Law in August 2024 to the investigation stage.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimum) of the NTB Police, Kombes Pol. Syarif Hidayat, confirmed that the handling of the case was in the police investigation stage.

"Yes, it's been a dik (investigation). The process is still ongoing," said Syarif in Mataram, Tuesday, September 1, which was confiscated by Antara.

In the process of this investigation, the police are currently conducting a series of investigations on a number of students suspected of being involved in the destruction of the gate of the NTB DPRD Office located on Jalan Udayana, Mataram City.

"Information from investigators, today there are several people who were summoned to be examined. The information is from among students," he said.

Head of the BEM FKIP Mataram University Lalu Nazir Huda who was met at the NTB Regional Police admitted that he was present to accompany a number of his colleagues who underwent examination at the police.

"There were nine who were examined today. However, one was not present, we were accompanying him," said Nazir.

He conveyed that the examination of his campus colleague had been running since 09.00 WITA in one of the investigators' rooms of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the NTB Police.

"First, five people were examined first until around 12.00 WITA. Then three more, from 12.00 WITA to the afternoon, just finished," he said.

Nazir, as chairman of the student organization's body, admitted that he had learned that this case had gone up to the investigation stage.

He also questioned the police's steps in handling those that seemed too early to increase cases to the investigation stage.

Although he has not received complete information regarding the basis for the police to increase the case to the investigation stage, Nazir hopes that this issue can be resolved through a non-ligacy process.

"Personally, we hope that this case can be resolved peacefully. Not resolved through a legal process like now," he said.

He saw that the gate damage to the NTB DPRD office during the demonstration was a spontaneous reaction from students in guarding democracy.

Nazir also regretted the attitude of the NTB DPRD which followed up on the damage to the NTB DPRD gate by making a report to the police.

"We also hope that the chairman of the NTB DPRD will withdraw the report submitted to the police," he said.
