Bandung Immigration Deports Nigerian Foreigners To Make Forex Fraudulent Investments

JAKARTA - A foreign national (WNA) from Nigeria with the initials NDC is suspected of committing fraudulent investments and forex trading-based fraud was arrested and deported by the Bandung Immigration Office. The action was considered to have contributed positively to the investment.

According to the Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Masjuno, what is being done is to provide certainty and comfort for investors to invest.

"So it is highly hoped that the impact on investors will feel comfortable investing in our region. If we can guarantee this, I am sure that investors will also be more interested in investing in the West Java region, especially so that the effect is not terror," said Masjuno at the Class I Immigration Office. He explained that the NDC has a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) as an investor. However, the case that ensnared him and in order to avoid casualties, especially from Indonesian citizens, had to make the person concerned be deported back to Nigeria on Thursday 12 September.

Bearing in mind, so far the suspect has communicated intensely with a figure with the initials A who is said to be from the US to invite him to invest in him. However, it takes an in-depth study whether A has become a victim or not.

"So that's an in-depth investigation obtained from his cellphone, that he communicated with someone with the initials A who in his confession was called from America and invited by the NDC, but there was no transfer yet. However, with his illegal presence in Bandung, we took action against immigration deportation as a preventive effort so that there were no casualties from his activities," he said.

It is known that this arrest was the result of intelligence activities using a closed surveillance method on public information regarding the presence of foreigners suspected of committing immigration violations in the Jarrdin Cihampelas apartment area and the Gateway Cicadas apartment by the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Section in the period 15-30 August 2024.

The intelligence results were followed up on September 3, 2024, with the secured NDC at Tower C 16th Floor Number Unit C1610 Apartment The Jarrdin Cihampelas to the Class I Immigration Office of TPI Bandung for further investigation.

The NDC, which has come to Indonesia since May 14, 2024, has the status of a tourist and plans to buy clothes to be sold in Nigeria using a limited capital investment permit (ITAS) for two years.

Then, based on the investigation and examination of officers, the person concerned along with another Nigerian citizen with the initials K made an investment scam by inviting people to cooperate in stock trading in one of the Forex applications on a cell phone.

The NDC admits that it came to Indonesia with a guarantor of a company engaged in textile large trading and large clothing trading, namely Unity Fortune Trading International.

"Even from the validity of the company's establishment data, NDC served as director with a share ownership of IDR 10 billion, but when examined he did not know much about the company," said Masjuno.

Based on the investigation carried out, said Masjuno, NDC was proven to have violated Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, because it utilizes ITAS to stay long in Indonesia to carry out activities that are not in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in Indonesia, so that those concerned can be categorized as foreigners who are in Indonesian territory with dangerous activities and endanger security.

As a form of law enforcement, the NDC will be deported on Thursday 12 September via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, using Ethiopian Airlines aircraft. Then, related to another Nigerian foreigner with the initials K, known as the NDC guarantor, was declared fugitive and pursued.
