Coordinating Minister For FMD: COVID-19 Vaccination For Teachers-Other Educators Is Targeted No Later Than June

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said that the provision of the COVID-19 vaccine for teachers and other educators is targeted for completion soon. This vaccination is expected to support the implementation of limited face-to-face learning in the midst of a pandemic.

"Vaccinations for educators and education personnel are targeted to be completed no later than June 2021", Muhadjir said in a press conference regarding the Announcement of a Joint Decree on Guidelines for Implementation of Learning in the COVID-19 Pandemic Period which was broadcasted on the YouTube channel of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Tuesday, March 30.

In addition to conforming to the commitment of the Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Muhadjir said that the completion of vaccines for teachers and other educators will support limited face-to-face learning activities. So, in the new school year starting in July, students can start studying at school.

Complementing Muhadjir's statement, Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim said that vaccinations for Kindergarten, Elementary School, and Special School teachers will be carried out at the latest until May.

"That's their first dose", he said.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 vaccination for teachers and educators at the advanced education level will be carried out at the latest in the second week of June 2021.

"This is a target that is not easy to achieve. However, we as the central government want aspirational targets so that we can ensure that in July, almost all of our schools can conduct face-to-face meetings openly", said Nadiem.

Meanwhile, for the administration of the second dose of vaccination, this will of course be decided by the health facility where the first dose of vaccine is given.

"The second dose depends on which vaccine is taken. Because there are several vaccines that have different time ranges or duration from the first and second doses", he said.

"So it is the commitment and target of the central government to prioritize vaccines for educators and also to ensure that in July all of our teachers and our educators have been vaccinated", concluded Nadiem.
