JAKARTA - Philippine celebrity priest Apollo Quiboloy who was arrested by local authorities for sexual crimes and child sex trafficking in the United States turned out to be an ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte. Quiboloy, who proclaimed himself as the'son of God appointed' to this 'Owner of the Universe', is also on the wanted list of fugitives, the FBI is looking for on similar charges. He was arrested in the southern city of Davao on Sunday amid a massive police search for two weeks at his sprawling sect complex. The Philippines, according to an AFP report, did not want to extradite Quiboloy, according to President Ferdinand Marcos on Monday, September 9. The US charged the Kingdom of Jesus Christ in 2021 with sex trafficking against girls and girls aged 12 to 25 to work as personal assistants, allegedly required to have sex with him. "For now, we don't see extradition. We focus on cases filed in the Philippines," Marcos told reporters on the sidelines of Manila's conference. It is not known whether the US has officially requested the extradition of Quiboloy, who is at least 74 years old according to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Quiboloy, whose sect claims millions of followers, faces charges in Manila for child abuse, sexual harassment, and human trafficking. Marcos also congratulated the police for arresting the priest. "We will once again show the world that our justice system in the Philippines is active, excited, and working well," the president said. Quiboloy is also wanted by US authorities for large cash smuggling and a scheme that carries church members to the US using fraudulent visas.

They were then forced to ask for donations for fake charities, raising funds instead of being used to finance church operations and the luxurious lifestyle of its leaders, according to the FBI.
