Iraq Denies Its Territory Used for Attacks on Saudi Arabia

JAKARTA - Iraqi Prime Minister's spokesman, Sabah Al-Numan, confirmed that there was no evidence that Iraqi territory was used to launch an attack on Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense earlier this week said that drone attacks launched from Iraq had targeted vital infrastructure and the capital Riyadh on Monday and Tuesday.

"So far, no party has provided any evidence to support these claims," Sabah Al-Numan told the Iraqi News Agency, as reported by CNN, Thursday, July 30.

"The government will not tolerate any unilateral actions originating from within Iraqi territory, but at the same time, the government will not accept any violations coming from outside its borders," Al-Numan continued.

On Wednesday, a US-Saudi attack in Iraq killed 20 people and wounded 32 others, according to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), an Iraqi militia affiliated with Iran.

In a meeting with US President Donald Trump this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi promised his country would crack down on Iranian-backed militias in his territory - a goal that previous Iraqi governments have failed to achieve.
