RIAU - The Pekanbaru Food and Drug Supervision Center (BBPOM) has named two suspects for selling illegal cosmetics after raids were carried out at the Ruko Complex on Jalan Semangka, Tobek Gadang Village, Panam, Pekanbaru, in Riau Province.

Head of BPOM Pekanbaru Alex Sander said the two suspects had the initials YN and NS. Meanwhile, the value of the cosmetics confiscated was around Rp. 500 million.

"All evidence reached 167 items of Cosmetics and Traditional Drugs without a Circular Permit from the POM Agency. The total was around 11,800 pieces," said Alex in Pekanbaru, Riau, Friday, September 6, which was confiscated by Antara.

The suspects are the owners and at the same time in charge. Both were secured from illegal cosmetic storage warehouses on September 3.

Alex said that the activity at the location was an operation to take action against illegal cosmetic sales. It is known that this sale is done online.

Previously, from this location, a joint team consisting of BPOM Pekanbaru, the Riau Regional Police and the Civil Service Police Unit also brought five people.

After the development was carried out, it turned out that BPOM Pekanbaru found another shophouse that circulated illegal cosmetics on Jalan Suka Karya, Pekanbaru, but found only a few.

"In Suka Karya, only a few cosmetic products were found without distribution permits and indeed the focus of the sale is at the current location at the Soekarno-Hatta Street shophouse," he explained.

He emphasized that the distribution of sales in the form of pharmaceutical preparations without a distribution permit or illegal cosmetic products without a distribution permit had violated the applicable rules and regulations of Article 435 of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health with a threat of 12 years in prison or a fine of IDR 5 billion.
