JAKARTA - A 12 year old child died because the car he was traveling in was hit by a train at a train crossing without latches in Jatiguwi Village, Malang Regency, East Java.

Kapolsek Sumberpucung AKP Effendi Budi said the victim was the child of the car driver who was hit by the Penataran train.

"The child was taken to Kepanjen Hospital for identification. His mother was treated at the nearest hospital," said Effendi, quoted by Antara, Monday, March 29.

According to him, the victim's mother was seriously injured and was taken to the Ramdani Husada Hospital.

Effendi explained, the car with the police number N 1869 DX driven by Vina Dewi Anggraeni (33) was hit by the Penataran train that was traveling from Kepanjen to Blitar.

"At that time the victim and her child from north to south on Jalan Bangsa and crossing the railroad crossing without latches. It happened at around 11.50 WIB," he said.

The police suspect that the driver did not see the Penataran Train passing by, so he was hit by the train with the loco number CC2039501.

According to Effendi, the vehicle driven by Vina was dragged 15 meters from the impact site so that its left side was badly damaged.

The police reminded residents to be careful when passing train crossings, especially those without latches, such as those in the Sumberpucung District area.

"We ask people to look right and left before crossing the railroad tracks, especially those without latches, make sure there are no trains passing," said Effendi.
