Individual Paslon Hasn't Registered Yet, KPU Extends Maros Pilkada Registration

The General Election Commission (KPU) of Maros Regency has extended the registration period for prospective regents and deputy regents in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.

"From the results of the plenary meeting, it decided to extend the registration period. This is in accordance with existing regulations and has been determined," said KPU member Maros, Muhammad Salman in Maros, South Sulawesi (Sulteng), Saturday, August 31, as reported by Antara.

He said his party would immediately announce the extension of the registration period.

"We first announce registration from August 30 to September 1, 2024. Then our registration will be open from September 2 to 4, 2024," said the Coordinator of the KPU Technical Division of Maros Regency.

He explained that the extension of the registration period referred to KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 10 of 2024 and was strengthened by KPU Decree (KPT) Number 1229 of 2024.

Article 135 of PKPU is stated until the end of the registration period if there is only one candidate pair who will be received registration as referred to in Article 109 paragraph (2).

"It is explained in this regulation that if there are still political parties participating in the election or a combination of political parties or individual candidate pairs that have not registered with the KPU for the regency city province, they can extend registration," he said.

In addition, KPT number 1229 of 2024 is also explained in more detail in chapter 10 concerning renewal of registration. For Maros Regency, he said, based on point b, namely if the requirements for accumulation of valid votes from political parties participating in the election or a combination of political parties participating in the election have not registered, it does not reach the provisions for the accumulation of valid votes.

"Parpol participating in the election or a combination of political parties participating in the election whose registration has been received can re-registered the candidate pairs with the composition of political parties participating in the election or a combination of political parties participating in different elections," he said.

Previously, KPU Chairman Maros Jumaedi announced that only one candidate pair would register at the KPU, namely the regent and deputy regent Chairperson Syam-Suhartina Bohari on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

This pair was promoted and supported by a total of 16 political parties, namely Golkar, PAN, PDIP, NasDem, Gelora, Hanura, PPP, PKS, Perindo, Gerindra, PBB, PKB, Democrats, PSI, Labor Party, and PKN. It is very likely that this incumbent pair will fight the empty column.
