Victims Of Makassar Cathedral Bombing Increased To 20 People, Referred To Several Hospitals

MAKASSAR - Head of South Sulawesi Police (Sulsel) Inspector General Merdisyam said that the number of victims due to the bomb explosion at the gate of the Cathedral Church in Makassar, Sunday, March 28 this morning has now increased to 20 people.

"Until now there are seven in Bhayangkara Hospital, four in Siloam Hospital. Of the total data on minor injuries, 20 people have returned home. This is the latest development," said Head of Police, Merdisyam while visiting victims at Stella Maris Hospital, Makassar. evening.

Head of Police Merdisyam said, from the information gathered, there were victims who suffered serious, moderate, and minor injuries. However, victims who have minor injuries are given outpatient care.

"There are serious injuries, minor injuries, and moderate injuries. Minor injuries have been given treatment, are outpatient, can go home. If they are still considered serious injuries, such as burns, we will be treated intensively at Bhayangkara Hospital," he also said.

Regarding the handling of all victims, Kapolda Merdisyam stated that victims who need intensive care will be treated at Bhayangkara Hospital in terms of further treatment.

"We focus on the handling of victims at Bhayangkara Hospital. This integrated handling is so that we can control it. For the same supervision we take it to the Bhayangkara Hospital," said the Kapolda to reporters.

When asked about the network of suspected perpetrators, he said, Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) was still doing research. The plan was that the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, would go to Makassar to visit the scene of the incident.

Apart from the Head of South Sulawesi Regional Police, Inspector General Merdisyam, there were also the XIV/Hasanuddin Regional Military Commander Maj. Gen. Hamisah, a wife of one of the victims, Daeng Tampo (60), as a security officer, said that her husband suffered hearing failure as a result of the bomb explosion. "Yes, he was in security there (Cathedral Church). When the incident happened, he was far from the location. But he could not hear," he also said.

Another victim of the security guard (security guard), known as Cosman, was seen to have serious burns on his face.

"Yes sir, his name is Cosman, security is also at the church. This is going to be brought to Bayangkara," said the victim's family, Jhon, at Stella Maris Hospital.

Previously, the suicide bombing took place at the Cathedral Church on Kajaolalido Street, Baru Sub-district, Ujung Pandang District, Makassar City at around 10.30 a.m local time, Sunday.

The incident was during the Palm Sunday Mass. The police said there were two suspected perpetrators. One can be recognized, and the other is in a state of disintegration. However, the previous perpetrator's actions were prevented by church security so that they did not enter the local church.
