Suicide Bombing At Makassar Cathedral, Jokowi Orders National Police Chief Listyo To Hunt Terrorist Network To Its Roots

JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) strongly condemns the terrorist acts that took place in front of the Cathedral Church, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. In fact, Jokowi has asked the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to investigate it thoroughly.

"I strongly condemn the terrorism action and I have ordered the police chief to thoroughly investigate the perpetrators' networks and expose the networks to their roots," Jokowi said online via the Presidential Secretariat Youtube account, Sunday, March 28.

Terrorism acts, said Jokowi, are crimes against human values. In fact, he emphasized that terrorist acts are not related to any religion. Because there is no religion that teaches to commit crimes.

"Terrorism is a crime against humanity and has nothing to do with any religion. All religious teachings reject terrorism for whatever reason," he stressed.

For this reason, the state will not allow or remain silent on terrorist networks to carry out their disturbing actions.

On the other hand, people are asked to remain calm with what has happened. In addition, people are also asked to participate in fighting acts of terrorism.

"I ask the public to remain calm in carrying out worship because the state guarantees the safety of religious people to worship without fear," said Jokowi.

"I invite all members of society to work together to fight terrorism, to fight radicalism that is against religious values, our noble values as a nation that upholds divine values and upholds the values of diversity," he continued.

State-borne victims

Furthermore, Jokowi also prayed for the victims to recover quickly. At least 14 people were recorded as injured as a result of the suicide

In fact, for the victims, all medical expenses will be borne by the state. So, they don't need to think about costs and focus on restoring their condition.

"For the injured victims, we pray for immediate healing, and the state guarantees all medical and cares costs for the victims," he said. A suicide bomb explosion occurred in the vicinity of the Cathedral Church, Kota Makassar, Sunday, March 28. As a result of this explosion, several people became victims.

The explosion was said to have come from a motorbike rider. There are at least two people suspected of being the perpetrators. So far, the police are still looking for information and clues about the incident.
