Today, Jabodetabek Online Motorcycle Taxi Demo: Avoid Palace Areas To Gojek-Grab Offices

JAKARTA - A total of 1,000 online motorcycle taxi drivers held a demonstration on Thursday, August 29. The action participants, who come from the online motorcycle taxi community (ojol) and couriers throughout Jabodetabek, will start from the Merdeka Palace, Gojek office around the Petojo area, Central Jakarta and Grab offices around Cilandak, South Jakarta.

The action participants call themselves the Indonesian Guard's Two-Wheel Online Transportation Driver Association. Chairman of the Indonesian Guard Igun Wicaksono said the action would begin at 12.00 WIB.

"Information from our colleagues that the action will be attended by around 500-1,000 ojol drivers from various communities in Jabodetabek, with the action route of the Merdeka Palace, Gojek offices around the Petojo area, Central Jakarta and Grab offices around Cilandak, South Jakarta," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, as reported by Antara.

Igun explained that his party would submit several demands to companies and the government.

"The figures of several groups of online motorcycle taxi colleagues and local Jabodetabek couriers will carry out peaceful demonstrations with demands that will be expressed both to application companies and to the government," he added.

The government, according to him, has not been able to do much to fulfill the sense of justice and welfare of existing application company partners. This can be seen from the legal status of online motorcycle taxis that are still illegal without legal standing in the form of laws.

The crowd demanded a clear legal standing for ojol drivers so that the company does not do what it wants to ojol partners and couriers.

"Without any solution from the platform and without being given strict sanctions by the government, this is what causes various protest movements from partners," he stressed.

He revealed that demonstrations would be carried out peacefully without any provocation from anywhere in order to maintain joint order in order to achieve the purpose of peaceful action.

"The Association of Two-wheeled Transportation Drivers The Indonesian Guard respects and supports peaceful demonstrations while not causing a disturbance to the security and social order as a form of solidarity and similarity in the fate of ojol drivers who are increasingly depressed by application companies," he added.

He hopes that application companies can respect the expressation of opinions from their partners as a form of input that needs to be considered and the government can also conclude recurring problems in the online transportation ecosystem.
