Pope Francis' Grand Mass At GBK September 5, Heru Budi Asks Jakarta Residents WFH Independently

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono appealed to the public to observe traffic congestion during mass activities with World Catholic Church Leader Pope Francis at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, on September 5, 2024. Heru conveyed the appeal because during the grand mass activity at GBK, other international activities, namely the International Sustainability Forum (ISF) at the Jakarta Convention Center, which has the potential to cause congestion to diversion of traffic flow at a number of points in Jakarta. "I appeal because on September 5 there are two big activities, we hope the public can see and observe this so that they can make decisions to work from home independently," Heru said at a press conference at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 26. The Pope's visit to Indonesia was carried out on September 3-6, 2024. The grand mass event was held at GBK on September 5, 2024 evening, where on the same day an ISF activity will be held which will be attended by a number of heads of state. "Jadi khusus tanggal 5 September ada kegiatan di mana kegiatan itu adalah sama lokasi dan ditambah (akan ada) gara dinner (ISF) di Monas," katanya. Heru also appealed to the public to be able to observe the routes leading to GBK and its surroundings because there will be traffic congestion beyond the usual day. "Therefore, the public is to pay close attention to the routes and also to observe that to go to GBK and its surroundings, there must be transportation and traffic densities that exceed the usual day. We urge if it is not too important, you can avoid activities or do WFH independently,” explained Heru. Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that his party had prepared alternative routes for the community to avoid roads around Gelora Bung Karno on September 5, 2024.

“ We hope that people who usually use Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Gatot Soebroto as well as the Youth and Asia Afrika Gate should try to avoid the road,” said Syafrin. Routes and road closures during grand mass activities will be conveyed by related parties in the future.
