Putin Accuses Ukraine Of Trying To Attack Nuclear Power Plants In Kursk

JAKARTA - President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of trying to attack Russia's Kursk nuclear power plant in an attack last night. Putin emphasized that Moscow had informed the UN nuclear safety watchdog about the situation.

Putin, who did not provide further details about the incident or provide evidence to support his statement, made the allegations at a meeting of senior officials.

There has been no immediate comment from Ukraine on the attack on Kursk.

Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of the Kursk region, told Putin at the same meeting the situation at the Kursk nuclear power plant was safe.

As previously reported, Ukraine launched a drone strike on Russia's Marinovka military airfield in the Volgograd region, southern Russia.

Ukraine reportedly attacked fuel storage areas and glide bombs, security sources in Kyiv said Thursday, August 22.

The Russian governor in the Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov, previously said the fire broke out at a military facility in the region after Ukrainian drones hit him. He said there were no casualties.

The source said Ukraine's attack was part of Ukraine's drone strike campaign against Russian airfields used by warplanes to carry out routine attacks on targets in Ukraine.
