JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives has postponed the plenary meeting to ratify the Pilkada Bill which was originally scheduled to be held this morning because the participants did not meet the quorum. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that his party would reschedule the plenary session through a meeting of the deliberative body (Bamus). "In accordance with the rules in the DPR, the meetings in the decision-making or plenary meeting must comply with the applicable rules of order. After being suspended for up to 30 minutes, the meeting participants did not meet the quorum so that in accordance with existing regulations that the meeting could not be continued," said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, August 22. "So that today's event the implementation of the ratification of the revision of the Pilkada Law cannot automatically be implemented," he continued. The daily chairman of Gerindra revealed that only 10 members of his faction attended. Meanwhile, of the 560 members of the DPR, only 86 were physically present. According to the mechanism, continued Dasco, the leadership will hold a Bamus meeting to reschedule the plenary meeting for the second level decision-making regarding the Pilkada Law. However, Dasco said that his party would look at the development and aspirations of the people to decide to accept or reject the ratification of the Pilkada Bill. Moreover, after the decision of the Constitutional Court which changed the threshold for the nomination of the Pilkada, the Pilkada Bill received the attention of the wider community.

"Yes, if today's trial is postponed, we have a mechanism that must be tidied up again, formulated again. Today we are following the existing rules and regulations so that today the ratification cannot be carried out. (The time? Yes, I don't know yet," said Dasco. "Later we will see the progress, yes, we will hold a meeting and we, the DPR, are representative institutions from the people and of course we will also see the aspirations of the people," he concluded.
