Revision Of The Pilkada Bill, PP Muhammadiyah Considers The DPR Not Sensitive To Community Restrictions

JAKARTA - General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu'ti admitted that it was difficult to understand the steps and decisions of the DPR RI which rolled out the discussion of the Pilkada Bill (RUU) and considered them not to respect the Constitutional Court (MK) and did not comply with the law. "The DPR as a legislative pillar should respect the highest judicial institutions, including the Constitutional Court," said Mu'ti in her statement, Thursday, August 22. Previously, the Constitutional Court issued a recent decision on the terms of the threshold for the nomination threshold as well as the requirements for regional head candidates. The decision had become a breath of freshness for PDIP to contest the DKI Jakarta Pilkada. Just a day after the Constitutional Court's decision, the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia re-voluted the Pilkada Bill which was later said to have the potential to correct the Constitutional Court's decision. Mu'ti said that the DPR as a state institution that represents the will of the people, should have accepted the basics of state that prioritized the truth, goodness, and interests of the state and the people, compared to the political interests of power alone. "Therefore, the DPR should not be opposite, different, and violate the Constitutional Court's decision on the terms of regional head candidates and the threshold of regional head nomination by discussing the 2024 Pilkada Bill," he said. The DPR's steps, said Mu'ti, in addition to being able to cause problems of disharmony in the constitutional system relationship, will also be the seeds of serious problems in the 2024 Pilkada. "In addition, it will cause public reactions that can result in an unconducive atmosphere in national life," he said.

He also encouraged the DPR and the Government to be sensitive and not consider simple to the flow of masses, academics, and students who took to the streets to convey the aspirations of law enforcement and legislation. "It is necessary to be wise and wise so that the mass flow does not cause increasingly widespread national and state problems," he said.
