Listen To The DPR Schedule Revision Of The Regional Head Election Law, PDIP: Why Suddenly? Even Though The Constitutional Court Has Already Tested It

JAKARTA - Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP Ronny Talapessy admitted that he heard that the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR would discuss the revision of the Law on Pilkada. The discussion meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21.

"I received information that there was a Baleg meeting on the revision of the Pilkada Law on August 21 and a Working Meeting on the Pilkada Bill on the same day 1 and 7 pm for a decision-making meeting from the Pilkada Bill," said Ronny at the PDIP DPP office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 20.

Ronny wonders why the Baleg, chaired by a member of the Gerindra faction of the DPR, schedules a discussion on the revision of the Pilkada Law suddenly.

Meanwhile, today the Constitutional Court (MK) issued case decisions number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and number 70/PUU-XXII/2024.

In its decision, the Constitutional Court changed the threshold for nominating regional heads in the regional elections. The Constitutional Court allows parties to not have seats in the DPRD to participate in carrying regional head candidates, as well as reducing the amount of the nomination threshold.

From the decision of case number 60/PUU-XXII/2024, there is an opportunity for PDIP to carry regional head candidates without a coalition, especially in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, in the case decision number 70/PUU-XXII/2024, the Constitutional Court rejected the lawsuit for changing the age limit for regional head candidates, so that the candidate for governor-deputy must at least 30 years during the determination of the candidate.

"How come suddenly there is a Pilkada Bill? In this case there is no. Even though (the Pilkada Law) has been tested at the Constitutional Court," said Ronny.

From the schedule for the revision of the Pilkada Law, PDIP suspects that there is an effort to re-change the rules for what has been decided by the Constitutional Court.

"If the Pilkada Bill targets this, I think the people should act. Here we need to convey that no one should try to play with the sovereignty of the people," he said.
