After The Constitutional Court's Decision, PDIP Immediately Plans To Announce Cagub Jakarta This Weekend

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP for Honorary Affairs, Komarudin Watubun, said that his party plans to announce the nomination of candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta this weekend.

The announcement of the nomination of Jakarta candidates coincides with a number of candidates for regional heads in other provinces and regencies/cities. Previously, PDIP had announced the suspension of several regions in the first wave.

"Yes, maybe later this week on 23-24 (August), that's the last wave," said Komarudin at the PDIP DPP office, Jalan Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 20.

Then, who will be promoted by PDIP in the Jakarta gubernatorial election? PDIP had opened up opportunities to carry Anies Baswedan. However, Komarudin emphasized that the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri also has qualified cadres.

"We still have cadres, there is Ahok, there is Djarot, there is Eriko. There is Masinton. Those are all party cadres. We just need to see who is assigned by the General Chairperson to be elected by the people of DKI Jakarta," said Komarudin.

PDIP now has the opportunity to carry the Jakarta cagub-cawagub after the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which changed the threshold rules for nominating regional heads in the regional elections.

The Constitutional Court decided that parties or coalitions of parties carry cagub-cawagub with a minimum of 7.5 percent of the legal votes for legislative elections (pileg) in provinces with a population of 6-12 million like Jakarta. PDIP itself received a vote of 14 percent in the legislative election of the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

Previously, PDIP was hampered in carrying out the candidate for Governor-Deputy Governor of Jakarta because almost all political parties joined the Ridwan Kamil-Suswono coalition.

"At least the Constitutional Court's decision opens up space for recognition of people's sovereignty. So, it is true that the people are sovereign. Even though there is an effort to power to kill democracy, the Constitutional Court provides space, and this is very good for us in DKI Jakarta. Because we are number two winners, the people's trust is number two for PDIP," said Komarudin.

From this decision, Komarudin urged the KPU to immediately consult with the DPR RI to revise regulations relating to the nomination of regional heads.

The KPU, according to him, must treat the current Constitutional Court's decision on the equivalent of the Constitutional Court's decision which passed Gibran Rakabuming Raka to become a vice presidential candidate in the 2024 General Election.

"The KPU must be proactive so that it doesn't say it's one-sided. Don't let Gibran's decision yesterday be a holiday, he just has that high spirit. So this one must also be the same spirit. Even on Sundays, he must have a consultation. Moreover, this security guard is not a recess," he explained.
