JAKARTA - India's Supreme Court ordered the establishment of a national doctor task force to make recommendations on safety in their workplace following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old intern.
The court also asked federal police to submit a report on Thursday, August 22, regarding the status of an investigation into the killing of a training participant doctor on August 9 at a government-owned hospital in the eastern city of Kolkata.
Doctors across India staged protests and refused to meet non-emergency patients following the crime as part of their actions demanding safer workplaces and rapid criminal investigations.
A police volunteer was arrested and charged with the crime.
