SURABAYA - The City Government (Pemkot) of Surabaya, East Java has begun to widen Jalan Raya Mengangan, Lidah Wetan Village, Lakarsantri District as an effort to unravel congestion in the area.

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi directly inspected the process of working on the widening project, Thursday, August 15.

"The Surabaya City Government is working on widening roads starting from Jalan Raya Menganti to the border of Gresik Regency. For the time being, the city government is working on widening about 500 meters first," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

Eri Cahyadi said that the 500-meter-long road widening is targeted to be completed in early November 2024. After that, the Surabaya City Government will continue to work on Jalan Raya Menanti along 1.2 kilometers in early 2025.

"Then in 2026, 2.1 kilometers of work will be continued. In 2026 to the Police Dormitory. God willing, it will reach Gresik in 2027-2028," he said.

The Jalan Raya Menanti widening project is adjusted to the Draft Regional Short-Term Development (RPJMD) of Surabaya City for five years.

"The road construction should have been completed in 2024. Because at that time there was an outbreak of COVID-19, finally the 2021 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) was diverted for handling COVID-19 in the city of Surabaya," he said.

Walkot Surabaya said, although in 2021 there will be COVID-19, physical development in the city of Surabaya will not be delayed until 2026. Thus, the work at that time was used for COVID-19, so the budget will be focused on 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Eri ensured that the construction of Jalan Raya Menanti along 500 meters this time could be completed by the end of November or early December 2024. The municipal government not only built a widening of Jalan Raya Menanti, but also made a channel in the middle in parallel the same as the one on Jalan Raya Wiyung.

"This has been released, this (walk) is parallel, so some have been released and immediately torn down. Later, a channel will be excavated in the middle, exactly like the one in Wiyung, and then to Gresik," he said.
