Surya Paloh: Anies Baswedan Difficult To Advance To The Jakarta Regional Head Election

Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, said that it was difficult for Anies Baswedan to run in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Regional Head Election.

"Mr. Anies, you know the situation. Perhaps it is difficult for him to run for the Jakarta Pilkada," Paloh said after the Ceremony of Service and Honorary Ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 14.

However, Paloh did not explain further the reason why Anies had difficulty advancing in the Jakarta Pilkada and asked the media crew to ask directly to the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.

"Try asking Mr. Anies, only he can answer, requirements are needed to comply with the existing provisions of the law," said Paloh.

However, he emphasized that Anies would remain NasDem's best friend.

"What is clear is that Anies is NasDem's best friend, that's clear. I have repeatedly said that in this nomination, it is not only NasDem himself. So that this must be complete, complementary, mutual understanding, I think positively, everything of course thinks how best a political party can give in a joint role," he said.

Meanwhile, when asked whether the NasDem Party was close to the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM), Paloh said that his party was positioning itself to be in government.

"I have explained that from the start, meaning that regardless of that, NasDem positioned himself directly to be in the government," he said.

Previously, the Prosperous Justice Party opened the option to leave Anies Baswedan and join KIM who will carry Ridwan Kamil to run as a candidate for governor in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pilkada.

Spokesperson for the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Muhammad Kholid said previously his party's priority was to carry Anies and Sohibul Iman in the Jakarta Pilkada and hoped that Anies could meet the lack of support from the four seats in the Jakarta DPRD.

"However, because the August 4 deadline has been passed, PKS has begun to open communication with all parties so that there is certainty that we can contest the regional elections," said Kholid via a short message received in Jakarta, Thursday (8/8).
